This guide explains which Doctrines are best and how to unlock them.
Once you've completed the tutorial, Doctrines will unlock. They can be used to improve your game experience and help you become the cultist red hat always knew that you could be.
The problem is that once a Doctrine has been chosen, you will be bound to that Doctrine throughout the playthrough. This guide will help make the experience as easy as possible by guiding you to the best Doctrine routes. I will begin by giving the list in order. I'll then explain my reasoning.

Below you will find the reasons I chose the order in which I did it. However, efficiency was my primary focus. If you feel I made an error somewhere, let me be aware.
Easy Early Food & Money
First, focus on what you want. Ritual of Ocean's Bounty You should get it as fast as possible, as it is a guarantee of easy food very early on. It can also be used to gain one the best sources for money very early in the game, giving you gold the rest of your game. To get there, you need 3 Doctrines in Supplementation.
Sustenance – Ritual Fast
This is chosen over Feasting Ritual(Use food for +25 Faith) because it allows you to flat out ignore hunger for 3 days. This isn’t a great idea at first but when you have many followers, it can be difficult to feed them all. It is best to be able eliminate the inconveniences as soon as possible, even if they are not needed later.
Sustenance – Cannibal Trait
This is chosen over Grass Eater Trait because it provides a little additional Faith and with the rest of this build you will likely stock up on quite a bit of meat from your followers making it so that you can make use of this Trait often.
Sustenance- Ritual of the Ocean's Bounty
A game-changer compared to Ritual of the Harvest . This Doctrine gives you 2 days worth of double fish. You will also get "Special Fish", which will allow you to catch almost any size catch. This is important because the quest requires you to unlock fishing early in game. However, it can take time to find all the 4 fish. This trait makes it easy and quick to catch them. You can also purchase fish from the Fisherman after you have completed the quest.
A little while in the game, you unlock an Offering Chest that allows your God to sell items. However if you sell too many identical items, the price will drop gradually and only increase as time passes. 90 Gold is required to purchase 3 Octopuss and 3 Lobsters from the Fisherman. These can be sold at a stable price, 19 Gold, for 71 Gold profit each day. This gold adds fast. If you fish these out, you can even save yourself the 90 gold overhead cost each day. This Doctrine will allow you to stockpile tons and tons of food as well as give you tons of money to build.
Earning passive loyalty
So with food and money taken care of, the next thing you should focus on is getting the Loyalty Enforcer because it will quickly and passively level up the loyalty of your followers so that you can upgrade your combat ability very quickly.
Law & Order – Murder follower
This Doctrine is great for many reasons. This Doctrine allows for the execution of dissenters in the absence of the opportunity to reeducate them. The Elder Followers can also be killed so they don't take up worker slots. Be careful not to wake your Followers during the Murder. It can cause some trouble. If they get in trouble, a hot meal made from fresh ingredients can help them relax. Compared to Ascend Follower Ritual this is clearly the better option.
Law & Order – Wedding
Everyone loves weddings and you will be sacrificing and murdering enough followers without needing to add more dead bodies with the Ritualistic Fight Pit otherwise who will do the hard labor?
Law & Order – Beliefs in Absolution Trait
This is simply free Faith. You can even murder anyone who you feel like a hassle to put into prison. Belief in Original Sin Trait It's totally pointless.
Loyalty Enforcer – Law & Order
The next big gamechanger. Tax Enforcer may add money to our pockets but you already have that and this Doctrine will improve the levels of all of your followers to more quickly improve your combat abilities. To quickly and easily upgrade your weaponry, make sure you have a Loyalty enforcer. We will make this even more powerful by making it impossible to lose our most loyal supporters. I also recommend giving your Loyalty Enforcers a Skull Necklace. This will help them stay around for as long time as possible. It will also help you to improve your Loyalty Enforcers loyalty every so often.
A little active loyalty
Our next Doctrine to focus is Inspire which, while not a game changer, is helpful earlier on and not so helpful later on.
Work & Worship – Faithful Trait
It takes forever to generate enough devotion to grab everything so this is better than the Industrious Trait until the very very late game so in some ways it's preference but I think overall this is the superior trait given the time it will take to reach that point.
Work & Worship — Inspire
Great for the Loyalty Enforcers or followers who are on the verge of leveling. Intimidate requires far too much micro-management in the late game so this is the obvious choice.
Even death cannot stop you
The final game changing Doctrine is Ritual of Resurrection which will help keep your cult in top shape for the rest of the game.
Afterlife – Sacrifice Trait
This trait makes Ritual of Sacrifice a fun experience for everyone. You can manage the belief in Afterlife Trait, which is almost ineffective in this setup.
Afterlife – Ritual of Resurrection
This will ensure that your loyal followers will never be lost. It is possible to always bring back your most loyal followers, and they will be resurrected at a young age. No matter what cause of death they may have, they will be a welcome addition once again to the Cult as a useful followinger. Your cult, when combined with the Loyalty Enforcer will grow stronger and more loyal over time.
No One Is Able to Take a Stand
Everything from this point on is just extra honesty. Although the Possessions Doctrines might have some useful uses, these are just an addition to your meal that you might choose to eat but not really eat.
Possessions and Bribe Follower
Can be used for a quick loyalty boost if needed and Extort Tithes is useless with how much money you should have by now.
Possessions – Beliefs in Materialism Trait
This gives you a boost of faith until the end, considering the amount of sleeping space required. Beliefs in false idols are a trait It's wasteful until the very end.
Possessions and Alms for The Poor
A great way to spend all that money you have. It's a cheap Ritual to increase faith and loyalty that will help you power up just a bit more. At this point, it's likely that you'll make the money back in donations. Ritual of Enrichment is good for money but you should have plenty to spare by now.
You will likely do Sermons every day because of all the benefits. And, adding faith to it will make your followers doubtless.
Work & Worship: Ritual of Inlightenment
Great for passive extra devotion. Construction: The Glory of Construction It would be used so sparingly that there is no point in it.
Work & Worship- Glory Through Toil Ritual
This can give labor a boost by keeping followers awake at night. Combining this with Ritual fast and some mushrooms will ensure that your cult can run for 3 days. Holy Day cuts down on production too much so it's only useful if you're not taking care of your followers properly.
Afterlife – The Good Die Young
Elders are useless so either your followinger dies while working for the company or you can kill and sacrifice them for more profit than what you were already making. No need to Respect Your Elders
Afterlife – Return to the Earth
Easy fertilizer if you're low. You can still get some meat from them. But Grieve the Fallen is wasteful
Sustenance- Belief In Prohibition Trait
Great passive as long you take care to your followers. Otherwise Substances Encouraged may be a better option. However, you would probably only use Brainwashing Ritual a few times.
