The following guide a quick overview of Brutals and where to find them in Vampire’s Fall: Origin. Although this brief overview will cover where to find Brutals and what requirements are needed. I hope to update this guide to include fight summaries and weaknesses. Some info will be taken from the wiki page, but pics will be taken from my own gameplay.
How to use my guide
Location: Where to find the Brutal. Wilds can be found randomly throughout the world, Guards stick to one given spot. Boss can be found in the same location after the rest of their corresponding followers have been slain.
Weakness: If the boss has a weakness to damage types.
Prerequisites: If any. Some bosses require a quest or extra step to be taken before you find them.
Notes: Any useful info regarding the fight.
(Disclaimer: Brutal fights get much tougher each Rebirth. This guide will go over the basics of the fight pre-Rebirth, although I will use screenshots from my first, second, and third time fighting some of them.)
How to fight Brutals
Brutals are tougher boss fights with inflated health, increased damage output, minor to major abilities (such as a heal or de-buff), and each will require some precise skill tree upgrades and timed attacks. Here are a few ways to fight Brutals:
The Melee Build: Sinking points into the best damage dealing weapons you can seems like it would be great, especially when combined with poison and bleed effects, but melee can be dodged, and higher level creatures don’t die right away from ma*sive amounts of bleed they just take a chunk of damage before you have to start bleed over again. Backstab seems like it would be really great because you have a chance to stack up to five attacks (fifteen during a combo round) but it is a gamble and you might not even get to chain more that one or tow attacks. I haven’t tried melee builds past my 20’s.
The Control Build: I started sinking points early on into Bat Swarm and Conjurebecause I realized how good they are; both cannot be dodged, and when combined with Vampiric Touch you will heal some of the damage you deal.
Regardless of your build, your goal when fighting Brutals is dependent on you being able to manage high amounts of damage and the occasional odd ability or two, generate Focus, heal when you can, and be the last one standing. By the time you fight Brutal Gods you should be able to manage your Focus enough to have six actions during a Combo Round.
All Brutal drop capes which sell well. Only the one dropped by the God of Brutals should be kept and compared to what you have. Some of its abilities are semi-randomized. They also drop other leveled gear but most is just trash that can be sold.
Quick Tips
* Bite should be maxed out regardless of your build. It’s one of the few healing abilities in the game and deals a little damage during combat. It cannot be dodged or blocked, and should be utilized once you start seeing your health start to drop.
* Conjure and Bat Swarm are great. Neither can be dodged and when built right can deal some crazy damage.
* Vampuric Touch should be maxed out regardless of your build. Getting any health back during a fight is crucial, especially against Brutals.
*Ranged attacks when fired at you cannot be dodged but have a chance to be blocked when you select Ranged Defender skill tree upgrades. This should be maxed out. Not only does it give you a chance to block and attack, but being able to block any ranged is a big plus.
*Brutals are fought in the wild and in preset locations. After slaying one they will not appear again until all other Brutals and their gods are slain which will reset the list and give you a respective trophy – bronze, silver, gold, platinum, etc. Upon completion of platinum trophy Brutals will stop appearing in game (but I haven’t seen if this is the case in rebirth. Currently on third playthrough of game and they have not respawned.)
Wild Brutals
Wild Brutals are just that – Wild. With the exception of the Brutal of Wild, all can be found randomly in the world, but mostly in a certain zone and some do require some prerequisites before the become discovered.
Mother of Wolves – Wild
Location: Forest near Avan (Random Encounter)
Weakness: Fire
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Easy fight for the most part. Boss hits hard at low levels. Can be found frequently. I ran several times before leveling up to the point where I could take her out with just a few hits.
Xaphxan the Invisible – Wild
Location: Area within Kamengrad Ruins. (Random Encounter)
Weakness: Blunt
Prerequisites: Player must complete Master the Hunt – Part 2 up to the point of completion where Master Hunter Lav in Kamengrad gives you a balm that attracts this Brutal.
Notes: Uses ranged attacks, which cannot be avoided without shield upgrades but otherwise does not hit very hard.
Tusk Trio – Wild
Location: Borewood Forest (Random Encounter)
Weakness: Lightning
Prerequisites: None
Notes: Three fights, one after another with increasing difficulty. Not a very tough fight. Boss’ attacks can be dodged.
The Rat King – Wild
Location: At the start to Niwokee, where a column of bodies are left hanging.
Weakness: Blunt
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Boss hits hard and has a high dodge chance. Also, lost of Swamp Warriors in the area so be leveled and have good gear.
Lernaean – Wild
Location: Dreary Mire (Random Encounter)
Weakness: Bleed
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Boss hits hard and primarily attacks in melee (sometimes multiple swings per attack), can also give player a debuff that reduces chance to dodge.
Aendisea’s Bane – Wild
Location: Ruins of Aendisea
Weakness: Fire
Prerequisites: Find the snuffed out fire and light it near southwest corner of the Shadow Valley. (See pic and map location.)
Notes: Boss’ attacks primarily ranged and deal magical damage. Boss has a wind up attack that can be blocked with Ranged Defender.
Styx’s Servant – Wild
Location: Angel’s Fall Cemetary (Random Encounter)
Weakness: Fire
Prerequisites: None
Notes: Not that hard of a fight, boss can spam missile attacks several times in a row. Since his ranged attacks cannot be dodged with Ranged Defender, either use Bite to heal when you can, or spam heavy hitting attacks.
Enigma – Wild
Location: Random Encounter (Can be anywhere on map)
Weakness: Dark
Prerequisites: Player must solve (not kill the quest givers) all five Riddle Side Quests:
1. Secret Meadow
2. Yorkshire
3. 3
4. Rat
5. Woodland
And acquire the amulet from the Riddle Master in Easthaven. Once you have the amulet Enigma can be found pretty much anywhere and just needs time.
Notes: Enigma is a tough fight, he deals primarily magic and fire damage and hits hard. He also has a ‘wind up’ attack that can deal some ma*sive damage, so when he winds up for the pitch either bite and heal, throw up some armor buff, deal some damage and brace for impact. The third time I fought him I maxed out Ranged Defender and managed to block one or two of his windup attacks.
God Brutal of the Wild – Wild
Location: Brutal Catacombs, South of Easthaven
Weakness: Blunt
Prerequisites: All Wild Brutals have been defeated.
Notes: I actually found this fight easy both times I played and I was able to down the boss pretty quick. He hits hard and can drop some debuffs on the player but his melee attacks can be dodged. Currently sitting on 65% percent dodge and I’ve yet to be ht by him in either playthrough.
Guard Brutals
Unlike Wilds, Guard Brutals have a Fixed location and with the exception of Brutal of Guard and God of Brutals require no side quests or odd objectives to discover. They can be found in the same place each play through. Guard Brutals are marked on your map by a red circled with two crossed swords.
Spirit Brothers – Guard
Location:
1) In Vamp’Ire, north of Gorneval’s place.
2) North of Kamengrad, east of Nicholas.
3)In northeast Borewood, south of Ways Farm.
Weakness: Dark
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: There are three of them and each is fought one at a time when you interacted with. The boss fights alone are not hard, but they do attack with ranged magic which cannot be blocked or dodge and they have the ability to heal small bits of health. Enough damage output should drop them before the heal becomes a problem but early game this can complicate the fight.
The Seals of Gont – Guard
Location: Northwest of Avan.
Weakness: Fire
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Four fights in the same spot, one after the other with increasing difficulty. Not a hard fight, but managing your health and focus are crucial on the final one who hits the hardest.
Beast of the Valley – Guard
Location: Southeast corner of the Shadowvalley
Weakness: Bleed
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Not a terribly; hard fight. Most of his attacks can be dodged. He does have a de-buff that can reduce health or dodge chance (I honestly forget) but I hardly noticed more managing to bring him down. He attacks in melee, and can attack more than once at a time.
Koccuburry Cave Dweller – Guard
Location: Koccuburry Caves ( I believe the second or third cave entrance)
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: It’s an inflated troll fight. Has a lot of health, hits hard in melee, throws a rock for ma*sive damage which can be blocked with ranged defender but not blocked, and can heal bits of damage back and the end of its turn when buff is active. Hit hard on your turn to accommodate for its ability to heal.
Hunter Killer – Guard
Location: An enclave in the Soil
Weakness: Poison
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Not a very hard fight. He’s pretty much like a health balloon that has some increased damage but otherwise not much harder than a vampire hunter. He has some de-buffs but mostly attacks in melee which can be easily dodged.
Death’s Advocate – Guard
Location: A small enclave southwest of Easthaven
Weakness: Blunt
Prerequisites: None.
Notes: Not hard, but he does have some lightning spells (cannot be blocked or dodged) which can catch you off guard if you don’t have much resistance. Also drops a max health be-buff.
Fulacks the Ugly – Guard
Location: The Trolldeskoven bridge closest to Mor Nyth
Weakness: Blunt
Prerequisites: None
Notes: Boss hits hard in melee and also throws rocks which can hit for a ton of damage. Since he’s a troll he also has the ability to heal. A solid fight, but pretty straight forward with good health and damage management.
Rat Eater – Guard
Location: Unholy Tree in Borewood
Weakness: Piercing
Prerequisites: Yes. You must kill 20 rats but they can be from any area. There’s a section in Avan where you fought the blue rat that has a high chance for encounters with rats so it is easy to farm them there. Upon returning to his tree and talking to him he will attack.
Notes: Easily the second or third hardest fight in the game depending on your thoughts of Enigma. Rat Eater hits hard, can attack several times, and has a lot of health. He has several wind up abilities – one where he launches something the other where he jumps and lands on you – neither can be blocked (without ranged defender) or dodged and they deal a lot of damage. Not to mention he’s pretty creepy to look at.
God Brutal of Guard – Guard
Location: Brutal Catacombs
Weakness: Magic
Prerequisites: All Guard Brutals must be slain.
Notes: Much like his Wild Counterpart, not a very hard fight. Has a mix of hard hitting melee and ranged attacks and some minor de-buffs but otherwise just a hard hitting health balloon.
God of Brutals
Location: Brutal Catacombs
Weakness: Blunt
Prerequisites: All other God Brutals (Wild and Guard) must be slain.
Notes: Easily the hardest fight in the game, even against the final boss of main story and secondary story. (Excluding Brutal Mazes) She will also fully heal once during the fight roughly around 50% health, but she only does it once. She can also use a de-buff o reduce your max health. Has many resistances, so using Conjure or Bat Swarm might hinder you chances of bringing her down smoothly. Her actions:
Staff(Melee) Deals mediocre damage. Can be blocked/dodged.
Fire Attack (Ranged) Ranged spell, cannot be dodged. Can only be blocked with Ranged Defender.
Fire Storm (Ranged/WindUp) Waits one turn, deals ma*sive fire damage at ranged. Cannot be dodged. Can only be blocked with Ranged Defender.
Lightning Strike (Ranged) Spell that offers no chance to block or dodge.
Heal(Self Heal) Around 50% Health she will use her turn to full heal. She will only do this one per fight.
Brutal Mazes
Once you beat the Rebirth storyline and start the Hunt for Sava you’ll end up on the second map of Denumald. Around this new map will be several large dungeon-like structures called mazes, each with a number of brutal fights with progressing difficulty. There’s a neat little achievement for completing them all, but if you chose to do these a couple of things to know:
* The fights start out light but get harder, with some bosses HP well into the 100-200k range, and they hit hard. Damage management is crucial just to survive.
* If you die, leave, log-out, etc you have to restart so the maze will need to be complete in one sitting.
* You get next to no XP or gear for competing these fights. Super lame.
*You must build your character up for these fights. After beating the game twice and maxing out my Health and Deceit skills I still got taken down.
These mazes are for the hardcore players.
