This guide was made because I saw so many new and returning players, as well as avid players, not knowing how to build bases or use keypads or fade doors. This video isn't available on Youtube in great detail, so I may add one to the site in the future.
Important things to remember while reading.
Some servers use different base rules. Depending on the rules of the server management, different sizes of shooting windows may be required.
There are two types of Shooting Windows: one that is larger than the other and one that is smaller.
–
I will help you understand the lingo I use.
–
If you aren't sure whether something related to the base design is allowed, please consult with the server rules.

We will quickly review some basic rules and bases in the Location section.
– – –
Servers typically require bases to connect to or be within a building.
Most buildings that do not have specific jobs are considered "a piece of the map". The Cinema, Police Department, Bank are just a few common buildings for specific jobs. Not all servers need a bank.
– – –
To be able to build on or inside a building, you will need to own all the doors. I think 75% to 75% is enough. Most staff wouldn’t mind.

The minimum Base you will need
Entrance Fading Doors, Shooting Windows. are basic requirements for a functional foundation.
Shooting Window Example
Example of Entrance Fading Doors
Fading Doors & Entrance Fading Windows
Fading Door is a tool in which you can set a key so that a prop you set as an 'fading doors' can be opened and closed.
I'm splitting the terms ‘Fading Doors’ and ‘Entrance Fading Doors’ to avoid confusion about how many fading windows you can have in your base.
Servers usually have a maximum limit of 4 Entrance Fading Windows before someone can gain access to your valuables. However, you can have as many or as few windows, as you wish for Shooting Windows.
Reversed refers to the process of fading the door and pressing the key to making it solid again.
From now on, I will refer only to Entrance Fading Doors & Fading Doors by abbreviations.
Keypads
The keypad tool allows for you to a*sign a small number pad on a wall to a faded door.
This allows you and other players access to the base.
A majority of servers require you to connect a keypad to each EFD.
You can link a keyboard to a fading entrance by setting the keypad access granted key' to the exact same key that you set your EFD. If you want to set your EFD to a key of 'H", you will need to also set the access granted to H'.
Shooting Windows
A lot of servers today require that you and your attacker have clear identical eyesight when shooting at someone via a shooting window.
This is where Fading Doors and Buttons can come in handy. You can set up a prop as an (fading door and hook the button up to a Keypad FD), so you can have a "press to open" the shooting window.
There are also One Way Shooting Windows looks like this
Back
front
A common single one way prop is the: 'models/props_building_details/Storefront_Template001a_Bars.mdl'
It looks just like this:
Clear shooting windows are not permitted by some servers.
Example of the commoner 'legally' shooting window.
Example of a blind fire’ shooting window.
One Ways to Simplify
Some props can be used in only one way, like the bars prop. I will show you how to make any prop work in one way. You will need the color and material tools.
The Toolgun UI has the Render section, which contains both the color and the material tools.
The Color Tool allows you to change the prop from a transparent to a solid color.
The Material Tool alters props texture.
The render mode section within the color tool, shown in this image, is known as the "world glow".
How to turn two props in one
Set the first prop to be used to see through another prop.
models/props_combine/tprings_globe
models/props_combine/com_shield001a
models/shadertest/shader3
models/shadertest/shader4
Next, open the Color Tool and set the other Props Color to any color. Also, make sure to set the render mode as 'World Glow.' Finally, click on the prop.
Your world can shine one way.
