Having low framerate count in Neos VR and you want to squeeze everything you can out of this game without loosing any quality to have a smoother experience while playing it in VR? This is the guide for you then :3
1. Configuring Steam VR Settings (Most important)
Please do remember, that this wouldn’t help everyone. It all depends on how stable your FPS counter is and some other things. But you can at least try this one:
1. Basically just go into your Steam VR settings
2. Open “Video” tab
3. Click on the “PER-APPLICATION VIDEO SETTINGS”
4. Switch “Throttling Behavior” from “Auto” to “Fixed”.
5. Depending on your FPS counter – Adjust the “Lock application framerate to” slider.
Basically usually keep it on 90. But if you’re having performance issues and your FPS (for example) is jumping around 30-40 – put this setting on 30. It doesn’t look nice when FPS is jumping all over the place, trust me.
Also some people say it looks much better with “Motion Smoothing” turned off (In the “Video” tab of Steam VR Settings), so you can try that as well.
2. Minimizing Neos window (Most important)
I couldn’t believe that as well, but turns out Neos VR works a little bit different from other games. Usually it is recommended to keep games in focus to have more FPS. IT IS NOT THE CASE FOR NEOS VR!
For better performance it’s better to actually minimize the Neos VR window, because it basically just disables rendering of that unnecesary window. (Unless you need to record Neos VR or screenshare your game into Discord and blabla…)
Also in case if your game is in fullscreen mode and you don’t know how to minimize it -> press Alt + Enter. It switches between fullscreen and windowed mode.
3. Setting High Priority
The easiest solution would be to set High Priority for Neos VR in Task Manager, but it has a downside that it will always reset itself to Normal Priority after you restart Neos VR.
I personally use a dedicated program called Process Lasso – [bitsum.com] . But it’s your choice how exactly you do that.
4. Disabling Motion Blur (If it’s turned on in VR Mode)
This doesn’t apply to everyone. I just, for some reasons, had a motion blur enabled IN VR MODE. Which you would NEVER want. That thing literally does make me feel like i’m in a jelly and that’s really not pleasant. We want to disable that.
To do that we need to install a mod for Neos VR called PhotonicFreedom. I’ll leave here a guide on how to install Neos VR mods: How to Install mods on Neos VR – [github.com] , and here the link to this mod: PhotonicFreedom – [github.com] .
Once you installed it -> just uncheck the “Motion Blur” in your settings.
I personally, with help of those steps, was able to jump from having 31 FPS to having 80-90 FPS and didn’t loose ANY quality whatsoever! I hope this guide will be helpful to someone, feel free to post a comment if it helped you or overall your feedback on it ^^
Here we come to an end for the FPS+ Light Performance Boost Guide (for VR Mode) – Neos VR guide. I hope this guide has helped you with your gameplay. If you have something to add to this guide or believe we forgot some information to add, please let us know via comment! We check each comment manually by approving them!
