My game crashes just before the main menu

The game can crash before you reach the main menu. This could be one of several things.

Corrupted installations

Steam game files can easily be verified by right clicking on the Steam Library game, or picking Properties Then go on to the Local Files Click on the Verify game file button.

Modifications out of date

People are modders more and more, then forget that mods need to be updated, especially after major game updates.

You can find more information in the section below.

Game runs on integrated graphics device

Sometimes, games opt for the integraded GPU and not the discrete/high performing GPU.

To ensure that this doesn’t happen, go to your Windows desktop. Right click to bring up a popup menu. Select Screen settings . Scroll down in the dialog to the Graphics settings Click on the link. Navigate to the file exe of the game in the new dialog. Select the option to continue. High performance option.

* Usually found in c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Planet Crafter\ .

Multi-monitor setup

The game doesn’t seem like it can appreciate more than one monitor.

Unplug your second monitor (i.e. take the HDMI/DisplayPort cord out of the videocard), and try to start the game. Then quit and then plug your monitor again.

Driver crashes

Unity games are notoriously bad at crashing the graphics drivers. This is especially true for the most recent processors and GPUs.

The following are possible checks/workarounds.

  • Update drivers.
  • You can verify the integrity of Windows using sfc/scannow at an administrative command prompt.
  • Limit the framerate using driver settings, e.g. to 60Hz or below
  • Force VSync via driver settings.
  • Reduce the clock speed of your GPU or VRAM to 100 MHz
  • Remove your video card from the computer and plug in the PCIe power cables.
  • Check your power supply (PSU). Recent changes have caused some PSU-Motherboard and Videocard combinations to not work well together.

Game causes blackscreen / no signal/ machine shutdown

Looks like your GPU tripped its own safeguards against overpower/overvoltage situations. Some power supply units can be finicky and cut power to your GPU, or your entire machine.

Still hearing music

This is when your video crashed hard but the system still survived. Your monitor will usually also indicate. No signal .

You will need reboot your machine. However, before you hold down power, simply press it once quickly . Windows will shut down normally when this happens.

If that fails, you can hold the power key until the machine shuts itself down. This may result in lost work in any other open applications.

Computer goes down completely

In this situation, your power supply (PSU), tripped its safeguards, and cut power power to your entire computer to prevent it from being damaged.

General workarounds

It could be one of two things you should check and try.

  • Update drivers.
  • You can verify the integrity of Windows using sfc/scannow at an administrative command prompt.
  • Driver settings may be used to limit the framerate, e.g., to 60Hz or below
  • Force VSync via driver settings.
  • Reduce the clock speed of your GPU or VRAM to 100 MHz
  • Remove your video card from the computer and plug in the PCIe power cables.
  • Check your power supply (PSU). Recent changes have caused some PSU-Motherboard – Videocard combinations to not work well together.

Can't view my saves/Can't create new save

Almost always, this is because of a modded video game. As of this writing, there are two known mods which can cause crashes that stop you from playing.

  • Mobile_crafter 0,0.1 by Skrwoor
  • Show Next Unlockables 1.0 by aedenthorn

It could be any of the mods. Therefore, you will need to remove the offending ones. Worst of all, you will need to delete all mods. It is possible for mods to alter the game in such a way that items may be deleted when you uninstall one.

To uninstall any mod go to your game’s install directory (typically found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Planet Crafter ) and into BepInEx\plugins then delete the mod subdirectory or DLL files. It is the exact opposite of what was done when installing the mods.

It is not necessary that you delete their config file. BepInEx\config .

My ingame screen is black/my machines don't function

99% of all times, you run low on power. This can happen after major updates to the game. The power generators tends to be rebalanced, or nerfed.

Check the power screen, which should show you have a higher demand than your production. You should build more power generators.

My character moves independently

99% of the times, this is due to a plugged controller.

Unplug your controller

I cannot interact.

Please make sure that your multitool is not in the Deconstruction mode. If so switch to None Or Construction mode.
